Background of DDRC: The Disabled Development and Research Center (DDRC) was founded through the initiative of Mr. Shahidul Islam Shazzad, a person with a physical disability whose dedication, vision, and commitment laid the foundation for the organization. Witnessing firsthand the systemic barriers and social exclusion faced by persons with disabilities in Bangladesh, Mr. Shazzad was inspired to create an organization that would champion their rights and promote inclusive development. Established on October 14, 2005, DDRC emerged as a non-governmental, non-profit, and non-political organization of persons with disabilities (OPD) based in Chattogram, with a branch office in Munshigong. From its inception, DDRC has been led and managed by persons with disabilities, embodying the principle of “nothing about us without us.” The organization focuses on community-based rehabilitation (CBR), advocacy, research, and capacity building to ensure that persons with disabilities can lead dignified, independent, and fulfilling lives. Over the years, DDRC has grown into a respected voice in the disability rights movement, collaborating with local, national, and international stakeholders to influence policy and practice for a more inclusive society.
